Gourd Crafting

Gourds have been used for centuries both for practical purposes like eating utensils and for decorations such as masks and wall hangings. Over the fall couple of years back I had collected some dried gourds from a local farmer here in North Carolina. I had made the long trip down to his farm and had had the pleasure of harvesting these babies myself. Lucky for me the gourds were very dry and needed very little cleaning and curing. Ever since then I had been saving these gourds for some exciting projects however lacked the inspiration and motivation to do any. I recently came across a Gourd Crafting book at the library and soon my mind was brimming with ideas and inspiration. Wonder how that works, huh! Here is what I ended up with.

This is inspired by my travels and my love for the most fascinating place in India - Rajasthan! A state full of arts and crafts with vibrant colors, mirror work and all.

For this pot - I used the soldering tool to burn the image on these gourds. It was lot of fun!
